GETTING YOUR CAR READY FOR HOT WEATHER

Well, the heat is on! The days are getting longer, the temperature is rising, and the sun’s burning rays are taking their toll on your car. To make sure your car is prepared for the heat, here is a checklist you should follow:

Check your Coolant System:

i. Check and test your car’s coolant level regularly.
ii. Check and test the condition of the coolant. If it is rusty, clean the system and replace with 50/50 mixture of water and ethylene glycol (anti-freeze).
iii. Refill with water and coolant as needed.
iv. Replace cracked or leaking hoses.
v. Check fan belts.
vi. Clean the front of the radiator. Carefully remove dirt, leaves, and bugs from radiator fins. Inspect cooling fins for damage.
vii. Inspect the radiator cap. Replace it if the rubber gasket is broken or missing.
viii. Check the water pump for leaks.

Check your Tires:

i. Visually inspect tires for cuts and excessive wear.
ii. Have your wheels checked for alignment.
iii. Test tire pressure for proper inflation as indicated by owner’s manual.
iv. Inspect lug nuts for snugness. Tighten accordingly.

Check all Filters:

i. Clean or replace the air filter.
ii. Replace the oil filter.
iii. Replace the fuel filter.

Check Battery:

i. Protect the terminals of your battery with grease to prevent rust and corrosion.

Check the Engine Oil:

i. ii. Check oil level.
ii. Check for oil leaks and have leaks repaired.

Take care of your car before it gets too hot to handle. Somehow, your life depends on it while you’re in it. So, make sure you drive your car in its safe condition and safe driving!
