GETTING
YOUR CAR READY FOR HOT WEATHER
Well, the heat is on! The days are getting
longer, the temperature is rising, and the
sun’s burning rays are taking their
toll on your car. To make sure your car is
prepared for the heat, here is a checklist
you should follow:
Check your Coolant System:
i. Check and test your car’s coolant
level regularly.
ii. Check and test the condition of the coolant.
If it is rusty, clean the system and replace
with 50/50 mixture of water and ethylene glycol
(anti-freeze).
iii. Refill with water and coolant as needed.
iv. Replace cracked or leaking hoses.
v. Check fan belts.
vi. Clean the front of the radiator. Carefully
remove dirt, leaves, and bugs from radiator
fins. Inspect cooling fins for damage.
vii. Inspect the radiator cap. Replace it
if the rubber gasket is broken or missing.
viii. Check the water pump for leaks.
Check
your Tires:
i. Visually inspect tires for cuts and excessive
wear.
ii. Have your wheels checked for alignment.
iii. Test tire pressure for proper inflation
as indicated by owner’s manual.
iv. Inspect lug nuts for snugness. Tighten
accordingly.
Check
all Filters:
i.
Clean or replace the air filter.
ii. Replace the oil filter.
iii. Replace the fuel filter.
Check Battery:
i.
Protect the terminals of your battery with
grease to prevent rust and corrosion.
Check
the Engine Oil:
i. ii. Check oil level.
ii. Check for oil leaks and have leaks repaired.
Take
care of your car before it gets too hot to
handle. Somehow, your life depends on it while
you’re in it. So, make sure you drive
your car in its safe condition and safe driving!
